What are your thoughts on the way in which The Mandarin was handled in Iron Man 3? It seems that the direction Marvel Studios took was an attempt to establish a rival that equalled the comic book Mandarin, whilst eschewing the racial aspects of the original character entirely, sensitive or insensitive. The approach is radically different from how we've seen Marvel Comics deal with the character though, which shed the insensitive aspects of the character but retained his racial identity.

I think it works for the purposes of the films, where you don’t need to use the character regularly. I expect that modern audiences would have a tough time with the Mandarin as traditionally portrayed. I don’t think the same thing would work in the comics, though, as there’s more of a need to use the character on a recurring basis.
