C'mon, Brevoort, why not admit the reason Rachel Summers was barely in AvX was that she made the plot completely illogical since at no point in the whole time she was the Phoenix was she a threat and she was able to control the Phoenix Force. I can't blame any of the writers or editors wanting to avoid pointing out a major plot hole.

Rachel was in AVX and didn’t have that effect on the story, so I don’t agree with your premise. The Phoenix withdrew from her for a reason, after all.
