I don’t mind the competition following what we’re doing if they think it’s working, I’d expect them to. That one John Rood quote maybe makes it seem like a bigger deal than it is, but it would be stupider for them to not do something that they clearly think will work out of pride. The goal of that job is to sell books, and if doing Point One issues and multi-shipping will do that, then that’s what they should do regardless of what was said in the past. I would never hesitate to adapt and adopt an idea that another publisher had in terms of format or ship-schedule if I thought it was worthwhile.
