  • I just heard Rick Remender on a podcast were he claimed that the best measure of fan reaction is the conventions. What's your take on that? From my experience I've only been to one con. I met a creator who was doing a book I really liked at the moment but the same one was respsonsible for a poor run on another one of my favourite titles. I never mentioned it because I didn't want to rude. Wouldn't people be less honest at cons because they are worried about being polite as opposed to boards?

I think that speaking to people directly and interfacing with them face-to-face is always going to be more legitimate than people posting things anonymously on the internet, in terms of gauging a sense of what the fan base as a whole is thinking–if for no other reason than that the vast majority of people who like a certain thing don’t feel compelled to post about it day after day in the manner that people who don’t like something do.
