  • Hello, I've been reading the Spider-Man: Next Chapter trades recently and I'm enjoying those stories a lot more now than I did at the time. (I'm also loving the current Spidey stuff too by the way, Superior is brilliant!) I was just wondering if you knew the when & why of the decision to abandon Chapter One as canon. Did JMS decide he wanted to ignore it or was the decision made higher up? If so, was it a decision based on fan reaction, sales or the personal preference of the people in charge?

I think that, even as it was coming out, there was a Mopee feeling about CHAPTER ONE being treated as canonical. Apart from other stories that John worked on, I can’t recall anybody else ever referring to it in other books. Just one of those unspoken consensus moments between the readership and the creators.
