That blurb is there for the retailers, to give them the information they need in order to order the books intelligently–to be able to better estimate the demand for a given issue in their shops, and adjust their numbers accordingly. It wasn’t intended to be information that was disseminated to the fans when this process began–but, of course, the fans always want to know about what’s coming up, and at a certain point, after years of them getting the information from their retailers anyway, the Previews catalogue began to be offered directly to readers. It was a sales tool that also helped the retailers, by allowing them to collect orders in advance. So at this point, it’s a well-established part of the way books are ordered in the Direct Market, and unlikely to change.
