Why does the preview for the (awesome looking) Ellis / McKone Avengers GN in the #Marvel #FCBD Infinity issue call it “Marvel’s First Original Graphic Novel”? Wouldn’t something along the lines of “First in an exciting new line of graphic novels” have been more accurate as well as honor past Original GNs? X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills and Spider-Man: Hooky and the Wrightson Hulk/Thing are just few greats that I remember.

Those are absolutely all great books, but none of them really fit the parameters of a Graphic Novel in the way the term is recognized today, for all that the line that they were a part of was called Marvel Graphic Novels. They’re really European-style albums, and not truly long enough in most cases to be considered a genuine graphic novel. So that’s the difference.
