I don’t know that it did. This is a common belief, but not one that’s truly borne out by a study of the stories being done now. Some of them are six issues long, certainly, but not all of them, and not even most of them. That all said, six issues is the length of the average collected edition, so as book collections became a regular part of the way our material is published, there became a need and a desire on the part of writers to consider the length of the eventual collection when structuring their storylines.
