Why do trades take so long to come out? I just bought the Ultimate Comics X-Men United We Stand trade based on all the good things I have heard about Wood's run. I loved it. I went online to look for the next trade but by the time it comes out 10 issues of the series will have been released between the time United We Stand and this new one is released in June. It makes it very hard to catch up which seems like a strange business model.

Well, if you want to remain current, you really need to be following the monthlies. There’s always going to be a gap of time between when the issues come out and when the collection arrives–if nothing else, you need to have all of the issues done before you can create the collection. Also, we’ve had plenty of discussions with our retailers about when they feel is the best time to release the collected editions in relation to the individual issues–they need to be able to sell through on the books they order, after all. Everybody has a different perspective on this question based on what format they prefer to read, so we work out our timing based on what seems to work the best for us.
