Each editor and writer puts together the solicit copy that they think will best help to sell the book. Those solicits, really, are intended for the retailers–it’s just that, over the years, fans have gotten access to them as well. But their purpose is inevitably aimed at the retailers, and your shop owner wants as much information as he can get so that he can order his books correctly and sell them effectively. I’d bet that in most cases, if you asked your store owner, he’d say that those solicits don’t give him as much information as he’d like to have.
