Tom, when you guys choose artists, you're obviously looking for the ability to get books done on time, but is there a required level of skill or just the editor liking the artist's style? because there are some artists that mainly work as fill-ins (and a couple main artists *coughcough*GregLand*coughcough*) where its like "are there people who actually enjoy this?"
There’s absolutely a required level of skill, and our editors all understand what it is. So any artist that one of our guys is going to hire is going to meet that criteria. What you’re talking about here really is personal taste, and that’s a very subjective thing. There are artists that you like, ’m sure, that other people don’t like, and vice versa. But nobody works for Marvel who doesn’t have genuine and thorough skills when it comes to the craft of creating comics–even if you may not like every single artist’s work.
