I get that cross-company crossovers split profits, but wouldn't they also split costs? Hence, they would earn less per book, but also cost less - and would also, depending on the matchup, be guaranteed good sellers?
No, that’s not really how it works–and even if it did, splitting the costs still wouldn’t make you as much as just doing a book by yourself. And absolutely nothing guarantees good sales. Maybe an inter-company crossover would sell well, but what does that mean in comparison to a regular book? It likely wouldn’t more than double the numbers.
