  • Is the old "Mutants=Civil Rights/LGBT" analogy oversimplifying things? It just doesn't work for me on a larger scale because those groups don't have issues that line up with mutants as a whole. Paranoia and extremism in general seem like more fitting themes as we've seen people with X-genes that outright kill them or that one kid from Ultimate X-Men who burned everyone in his town alive with a power he can't turn off. I can't see the comparison unless we're talking about their personal issues.

    Everything is metaphor, it’s never going to be absolutely a one-to-one relationship. Also, the X-Men are meant to relate to all kinds of different people, not just one specific group.
