Per Herb Trimpe’s aping of Liefeld in the nineties: I’m friends with Alex Trimpe, Herb and Linda’s son. I asked him about this when I first met him, and he said, believe it or not, Herb actually did this willingly. True, he may have been doing it to keep working, and it may have even been suggested to him, but Alex said he was genuinely excited to try out that style. Of course, Herb was a professional: even if it was an edict, he was never one to pass the buck. He would embrace doing it.
