  • Tom, I know you have nothing to do with it, but do you fear the Marvel films are blowing their proverbial load, story-wise? Like you have 70+ years so stuff you could be doing, and Civil War was effective because of the shared history between the characters. In the films, Cap and Tony have known each other a couple months, maybe? Who cares if they disagree on something?

Cap and Tony have known each other since the first AVENGERS movie in 2012, so four years by the time of CAP: CIVIL WAR. Time doesn’t really pass any differently for the film characters than it does for us, a difference between the MCU and the MU for the moment.

And no, i don’t think the films are rushing things especially. Yes, they have 75 years worth of stories to draw from, but they should do whatever stories they think will be appealing to a movie audience of today. Waiting to do a really good story until your fourth or fifth movie is an absolutely excellent way of increasing the likelihood that you won’t get a fourth or fifth movie, after all. We put out a number of new Captain America stories every month in publishing, whereas the Studio does at most one new Cap story a year or two years. So they absolutely should cherry-pick the best bits with the most impact in what they’re doing. That’s why you love those films in the first place, right?
