Hey Tom, I know Marvel is pretty decent about this, but other companies are horrendous. What causes the delay between the end of a story and the release of the collection? I was looking at a Boom series (for example) that ends next month, but won't be collected until July of next year.
It all depends on the company, and what you’re trying to achieve. And also the buying patterns of both the readers and the retailers. If you put out the collection too soon after the end of a given series, you incentivize people not to bother reading the individual issues but instead just to wait for the collection. And that may have an adverse effect on your whole fiscal picture. So that’s the balance that each publisher has to manage.
