If that's so, why was the page count for #7 and #8 reduced from the original solicit to what Diamond now is telling retailers?

Because originally they were one issue. This is why issue #9 was added. Jonathan’s first draft script of issue #7 was 45 pages long, so we wound up reformatting it and breaking it into two issues, #7 and #8, and the original #8 is now #9.
