Personally I don't like the retcon that Magneto isn't the twins father but I could understand it more if there was an actually purpose to it. You've said it was done for storytelling reasons what reasons? You haven't really done anything with for either character. There was one arc in Uncanny Avengers which further complicated their back stories.
