Also in regards to female writers: I'm glad that Becky Cloonan will be writing Punisher, because it's nice to see a female writer get a male-led solo title. It doesn't happen often, and hasn't for a while, at least at Marvel. I"m wondering why that is. Is it that female writers seldom pitch for male characters, or are editors not asking female writers to pitch for male characters? Or a mix of both? Or is it neither, and pitches are done but just don't quite fit what's being looked for?

It’s probably a mix of both. I’m not sure how Jake Thomas landed on talking to Becky about PUNISHER, but either she expressed some interest at some point or he saw something in her work that indicated that she would be a good fit and interested in the character would be my guesses.
