  • Is the reason why you're doing fewer Avengers and X-Men titles because these franchises do better when there's a smaller number of creators? Like the Claremont/Simonson and Lobdell/Necieza X-Men years and the Stern/Englehart and Bendis/Slott Avengers years?

    Not really. This is more about the ebb and flow of the marketplace. At certain times, there’s a huge wellspring of interest in a property, and suddenly you find that you can do several titles devoted to its characters and practically all of them will find support. GUARDIANS is going through that right now, for example. But at a certain point you get a sense of a softness across the line of books, and at that point it makes sense to scale back and re-focus it. So fewer Avengers or X-Men or whatever titles, and therefore with a more unique patch of ground for each to stand on, or creative approach for each to have.
