Todd McFarlane was easily the most influential artist of the 80's. The whole landscape for artists changed because of what he did. IMAGE comics (which I think did far more damage to comics than good) came directly from McFarlane exploding in comics. He was the start of it all. Art Adams drew about 10-15 comics in the 80's. A fringe mini series and some X-Men annuals. Nothing he did had the impact of Todd.
We’re not talking about most popular, we’re talking about most influential.
Todd was incredibly popular, and did influence people who came after him, such as Erik Larsen and Mark Bagley and such. But he himself was influenced by Art Adams.
