Why are the only two options in the Marvel U to either allow mutants to police themselves with full legal immunity, force all mutants to register or build Sentinels? Isn't the whole, do we support Xavier, force registration or build autonomous killing machines a false dilemma? What about Val Cooper's way of supporting a government-sponsored mutant policing agency? That's nowhere near as severe as what Tony Stark or Bolivar Trask suggested and offers more accountability than Xavier's way.

You just gave an example of an opinion on mutants in the Marvel Universe that is neither of the two extremes you point to and which originated within the Marvel Universe. So clearly there are more than just those two options available.
