  • >You posted one of my submissions a while back and it really made my day. Probably more like my month. As a long time Marvel fan and letters page reader it gave me the same thrill i assume others must have had when they saw their correspondences appear in the backs of their favorite comics. Thank you for that.

On to a question i have which may have been already answered. I did a brief check of the net for this one first but only found cursory examinations of the subject. All this age talk got me thinking, so why did Steve Rogers get old when his super soldier serum was removed? I understand why his body would become weak again seeing as how the serum created his physique, but even if it kept him young his real age isn’t that old right? I figure in Marvel time he’s about 35 tops. He was 25 when he was frozen, and it doesn’t seem like more than ten years have passed in the comics since he thawed. So why does he have lines on his face like he’s 60? Did having the serum in his body cause a kind of strain and prematurely age him when it was expunged? Did i incorrectly estimate Marvel time? Should i find something better to do with my time? Make mine Marvel>

We’ve been saying “had the Super-Soldier Serum neutralized” as a kind of easy shorthand. But the Iron Nail drained the life and vitality out of Steve, leaving him as you see him today, so it’s a little bit more than that.

You forgot the decade he spent in Dimension Z. He’s in his mid forties, experientially.
