Except the way superior iron man kept showing up everywhere (like on the cover of shield 1 with the new cap and thor) made it look like he was going to last a little longer. Was the plan always for it to be that short-term?

He showed up everywhere that Iron Man would typically show up. Yes, we always knew that the story would go up to Secret Wars.
