  • When did the DC/Marvel rivalry become so rude? Marvel used to call DC the Distinguished Competition, but nowadays staffers just take repeated shots. Don't get me wrong - criticism is great, and I'm happy DC and Marvel are separate, but sometimes it just seems like petty antagonism.

Well, it’s always been petty antagonism to some degree. But that said, I find that the reaction typically has as much to do with what the reader’s position is as it does with what is said. If you hated Man of Steel, you tend to cheer a little bit when it’s criticized. And if you loved Man of Steel, you tend to take umbrage over the same thing. To me, it’s simple: people ask me questions, and they want honest answers to them (as many of the more outraged questioners often insist). So if I’m asked a question about something related to this, that’s what I’m going to give you to the best of my ability. And some will like the answer, and some will not.
