If you're interested in trying "new" Kamen Rider, I highly recommend W. it carries a Showa feel, from story, to the designs of characters, names and even suit design later on. It doesn't push its gimmick toys too much, though that IS the purpose of all the Rider shows, to shift merch. It is solid throughout and considered the best of the Rider shows of recent years. The core concept of the show, detective agency, is also more appealing for...older people, vs say, the dance clubs of Gaim.
