  • Have Marvel considered censoring the Byrne Fantastic Four issue which uses the n-word in the reprints? I completely understand from an artistic perspective why the word was used but I think the attitude towards use of that word has only amplified over the years and, particularly out of context, that looks bad.

    Well, we don’t print it out of context. We print it in context. Which still makes it look bad, but that’s kind of the point.

    I tend as a general rule to dislike the concept of changing stories of the past in this manner. That becomes a very slippery slope and does not, for good or ill, represent the intent of the creators when they were creating those stories. If anything, I prefer to contextualize such material, to condemn it without whitewashing the past and the conditions under which it was created.
