What made Jean expendable for SW? Throwing Phoenix on Cyclops isn't exactly what I would call an acceptable solution if that was the case. That hurts the material more than it helps. Its also a huge kick in the gut to fans to see her pushed aside when she so clearly should have been used, after waiting so long to get her back in the first place.
You’re jumping to a conclusion about solutions that isn’t accurate, so you’re proceeding from an incorrect premise.
What made jean expendable is that that’s ultimately the storytelling decision that Jonathan came to.
