  • why do you think some characters are more open to adjustments in race and sexuality. Like Iceman, a character written as long as spiderman has just been declared gay and most fans seem ok with it, however if something like that happens with spiderman it would probably be rejected by writers and fans. it must be more than just continuity and age of character. so what do you think it is?

    Some of it is simply the number of fans that are deeply invested in that character. in the case of Iceman, while he’s been around for decades and in general readers have liked him, he doesn’t really have as many dedicated or devoted fans as Spider-Man, or Storm, or even X-23. So there are fewer people in general for whom that revelation hits home.
