Why do people keep writing in with exceptions to the Everything Dies rule? It seems like - and I don't mean to insult people by saying this - there's a real resistance to the fact that anything can happen if the writers want it to. (Maybe the flip side of the fans who insist that a character is "ruined" because of one thing a writer made him or her do, as if the character isn't bigger than the writer.)

To a certain degree, it’s people going for a “gotcha”, so that they can display their command of the history (and their time investment in learning it) and maybe get one over on the creators. Perfectly natural and nothing new., apart from the delivery system of the internet. This is the very reason why Stan started giving out No-Prizes.
