Am I right in getting the impression that the Avengers, pre-Heroes Reborn, didn't really get back their momentum after Roger Stern was fired? Or am I just scapegoating Gruenwald and the subsequent writers for what would have happened anyway in an increasingly X-Men dominated Marvel? (I actually do like Bob Harras's Avengers run quite a bit, but it doesn't feel like a flagship book, while Stern/Buscema does, despite the lack of superstar cast members.)
I would make the argument that the Avengers had lost their momentum earlier than that, probably around issue #200. But everybody tends to see this stuff differently depending on when they started reading the series and what they responded to.
