You've mentioned there's often a 20-year cycle to old characters regaining popularity, as the generation of kids that grew up with them ages into the new generation of creators. Do you think that cycle will change (or is changing) now that older comics are more readily available digitally and in collections? (I grew up in the '80s but loved the '70s Defenders comics I got in 25-cent bins; those bins are now virtual and infinite!)

I don’t think so, no. While you’re correct that more and more material is available, the audience that’s coming in as a whole is focused primarily on the new stuff, as it always is. There’ll of course always be some people who gravitate to the older comics as well, but by and large it’s the books of today, whenever today happens to be, that will command the most attention–and those that will be looked back at nostalgically in twenty years’ time or so.
