What would you recommend to a complete Marvel rookie to give them a solid idea of what Marvel is all about? By that, I mean not necessarily the best or most famous comic, but the one they could walk away from best "getting" Marvel. (So NOT something that's great but idiosyncratic, and probably not anything too old, because it might seem a bit dated.) I'm thinking Civil War: wide array of characters, ambiguous morality, accessible but implies a larger scope. Any other ideas?

I kinda feel like CIVIL WAR is a daunting read for an absolute rookie–too many characters whose relationships are only sketched out.

No, I think I’d go for something simpler and more streamlined, a solo character story so that the overall number of elements wasn’t so overwhelming.

So I’d probably do DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN.
