  • Ok, I'll bite. Why did you hate the EMH story where Casey made it apparent that everyone knew Hank was Yellowjacket? I felt like if you treated the first story as being told by an unreliable narrator, then the second story fleshed it out. Obviously you disagree...

    See, hate is way too strong a word here. This is why it can become difficult to have a conversation like this about a particular work, because anything you say gets exaggerated by the listener.

    To me, I found the notion that everybody in that story, including a full complement of SHIELD personnel, walks around pretending that they don’t know that Hank is Yellowjacket and that he’s had a psychotic breakdown that makes him a danger to both himself and others around him much more difficult to buy than the admittedly-crazy original version in which they didn’t know Hank was YJ. Joe and I went back and forth over this plot point as the series was developed, but I don’t think we really licked it in the final story. It’s still pretty tough to swallow, and uses the kind of psychology that you might have seen in a 1960s sitcom–”Don’t wake up a sleepwalker!”
