  • Jim Shooter once said that the people at Marvel licensing used to be so unawre of their own product that they licensed "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "The Spectacular Spider-Man" to different companies because they thought they were different characters. Is that story true?

    That seems like a stretch to me, an exaggeration for effect. It may have been something that somebody in licensing suggested, but executing such a deal would have pointed out the fact that they were double-dipping on the same rights. But I wasn’t there, so I cannot tell you for certain–certainly stranger things have happened.
