Sentry - Volume 1
by Paul Jenkins

The first volume tells the story of Robert Reynolds, a troubled man, who one day awakens just to realize, that he was once the greatest superhero the world had ever seen. But his memories are shattered and as they slowly start returning, so does his arch-nemesis the Void, a ruthless force with enough power to end the entire universe.

Tip: The additional one-shots dig deeper into Sentry’s early encounters with various superheroes like Spider-Man, Hulk, the Fantastic Four and more.





The Age Of The Sentry
by Jeff Parker

While non-canon, this run still offers you a good look at Sentry’s early years as a superhero. The entire run is very lighthearted and has a strong Silver Age-y feel to it (due to the writing and the art).

New Avengers - Volume 1
by Brian Michael Bendis

The Sentry joins the main Avengers roster and fights, alongside Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man and others for peace and freedom.

Tip: There is a lot of focus on the Sentry in the first ten issues of the run, later on only now and then.

Sentry - Volume 2

The second Sentry volume shows the Sentry trying to fit in and once more deal with the vast responsibilities he has. There is also a lot of focus on Sentry’s mental illness, other personal problems and once again the Void, whom he is trying to contain.





New Avengers #24 + Civil War: The Return

These two comics show Sentry’s mentality and struggle during the Civil War.





Mighty Avengers - Volume 1
by Brian Michael Bendis

After the Civil War the Sentry joins Iron Man’s Mighty Avengers team.

Tip: There is a lot of focus on the Sentry up until issue #14.





Silent War
by David Hine

The Inhumans have a bone to pick, but the Avengers are in their way. Sentry happens to be one of the Avengers and the one with the most amount of doubts and questions about the war.

Tip: There is a lot of focus on the Sentry in issues #2 and #5.





World War Hulk
by Greg Pak

The Hulk is angrier and stronger than ever before. Unfortunately for the Marvel universe, his rage is directed towards all the heroes. While the Avengers are trying to deal with him, the Sentry is dealing with his own problems.





Dark Avengers - Volume 1
by Brian Michael Bendis

Norman Osborn has legitimately taken over the Avengers. While most of the Avengers leave, the Sentry is one of the few, who stay on the team.





Siege
by Brian Michael Bendis

Osborn’s Dark Avengers attack Asgard with the Sentry being one of the attackers. Soon things get out of control.





Siege - Fallen Sun

A final standalone comic for the Sentry and an ode to the character at the same time, written by his creator Paul Jenkins.





What If? #200
by Marc Guggenheim

An alternate reality scenario, where Osborn wins the Siege on Asgard. Once again, the Sentry is in the middle of it all.





Uncanny Avengers - Volume 1
by Rick Remender

A team consisting out of Avengers and X-Men members encounters the Apocalypse Twins, who try “save” the mutants. To achieve their goals, they resurrect some of the Avengers and X-Men former friends and allies with the Sentry being one of them.



Why you should read Sentry comics:

The Sentry is a rather new character, but one that fits perfectly into the Marvel universe, which is full of flawed men and women, who are just trying to do the right thing. Sentry is such a man, a deep and complex man and even though he wields limitless power, he is still a very realistic character, which is also a big Marvel universe trait. By reading Sentry comics, you see the responsibility a Marvel hero has and also the burden and the struggle, that come with that responsibility.
