Tom, I've been writing in other mediums for several years, and thankfully I've been able to reap some monetary fruits. My agent just sent me a contract for my first comicbook from a small publisher. Being new to the industry I have a few of questions I'm hoping you might answer. Is it appropriate to approach an editor with work at a convention? Do you prefer to see original published work? Or Would a fully drawn and inked "Marvel" comic be a better pitch? Is this option legal? Thanks
Published work of some kind is what you want to show people at Marvel. We can’t look at unsolicited submissions, and that includes your home-drawn Iron Man story. Also, don’t expect an editor to read something at a convention, it’s impossible. For me, I prefer prospective writers to send me their published work to the office. If I’m struggling to fit stuff into my travel bags, it’ll be the first thing over the side.
