Can your own personal bias affect Marvel comics in general? Let's say you want to see your favorite character Ben "The Thing" Grimm more in the spot light. Could you simply hire a writer and an artist to come up with something? Even ask a writer to include Ben Grimm in an Avengers team and give him a major role in that run? Can you do that, or are there people above you, who could view that as a bad idea and deny you that decision? I'm curious on how much power editors have over comics.
Could I do that? Sure. Could somebody above me stop that? Sure. But in both cases, there’d need to be some merit in doing so. We’re a business, and we hire our editors for their creative expertise as much as for anything else. Their remit is to create books that they themselves would want to read and buy–so they’re not likely to pitch or propose stuff that they are not interested in or like.
