Hi Tom,
Just read another vulgarity-including post by that very chatty guy “Anonymous”, who must really, really like you since he/she posts so much :) . This time it was about a story he/she thought was bad (in this case, One More Day).
While I get that some folks can be passionate about their heroes (includes me at times), I would like to remind my fellow readers that instead of raging, remind yourself that bad story helps them/us appreciate good story all the more when it comes along (“bad” and “good” being eye of the beholder). Did I like “One More Day” aesthetically or thematically? No. Did it make me, in retrospect, appreciate “The Clone Saga” a bit more in a weird way (which, yes, I bought on the racks and….*sigh*…bought all the way through)? Yes it did. Did the new “Guardians 3000” let me down? Yes. But..! Did it rekindle my warm thoughts about the original (and to me, only “real” Guardians - sorry, I’m old school. Nothing wrong with the modern, racoon-y version, they should just be called something else in my mind) enough to re-read some awesome stories from the 70s and 90s? Yes, it did, so, in a way, “3000”’s announcement gave me what I wanted, since I went and found it.
So it’s all in how we interact with stories, good and bad. And hey, one more silver lining is that if “Anonymous” thinks X, Y or Z story was truly deeply that bad, then hopefully it will inspire him/her to write a better one and, in the great American tradition, work to get it to see print one day.
I, and I’m sure many mostly-silent others, appreciate the time you give people in this forum. Thanks and keep up the good works.
