Tom, how hard is it to come up with a really cool superhero that's successful? Like how lucky (and incredibly talented and skilled) were Stan and Jack and the rest of those guys in the bullpen in those days? I mean even if you put aside great characterization and gripping origin story, the smaller things and fine details like name, costume design, which colors work are so hard to come up with when I try to do indie stuff. Just felt like praising the great creators and asking about the process.
It’s really pretty hard–especially in a world where all of the most successful super heroes of years gone by are still around and still being published.
A lot of people have tried to come up with the next Spider-Man over the years, but very few later characters have equaled him. When you look at all of the stuff that Stan and Jack and Steve originated in just a few short years, really about three, it’s an incredible run of lasting creativity.
