Well, the recently released rankings for February dispute that a little bit:

 But you’re right in that the zeitgeist at the moment seems very much in favor of the kinds of titles that you’re talking about. I don’t know, too, that I would consider SPIDER-WOMAN or HAWKEYE particularly cartoonish or humorous, but what you’re really talking about here is titles featuring non-traditional leads that have a very strong and very clear visual and storytelling style.

I don’t know that the entire market ever switches to being just one thing, but at the moment these sorts of series do seem to be garnering the most attention and praise, and reaching out to new audience members.
