  • Do you think Marvel will ever nail down a format that works for collecting full, lengthy runs of books? When it comes to the Lee-Kirby Fantastic Four run the two Omnibuses only cover 60 issues and some annuals. The 8 PAD Hulk TPBs cover 66 issues and some annuals. Neither seem likely to see completion any time soon. I get differing financial reasons why why they may not. But what way can one get a full run? Is digital really going to be the best option for these situations?

When you’re speaking about a lengthy run, you’re always going to run into the same problem–sales on the later volumes not being good enough to get you across the finish line. Unless it’s something like ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN that was being collected in real time as it was being produced, this has always been an issue.

So it all really depends on the sales. All of the Lee/Kirby FF stories are available in both Masterworks and Essential volumes, and the third Omnibus is on the way. As for Peter’s HULK run, I don’t know, it’s going to depend on when anybody thinks we’ll be able to make those volumes perform as they’d need to.

So yes, something like Marvel Unlimited is likely your best and easiest bet.
