About the issue of most of the material being geared towards a particular kind of audience. Personally, I dislike psychopathic ultraviolence or dystopian hopelessness, so I prefer books like Astro City, which I find more balanced. Mind you, I do like Marvel books such as Silver Surfer, She-Hulk, and Squirrel Girl, but haven't found much else that I genuinely enjoy at the moment. Is it considered whining to ask for more books geared towards my type of audience, or is it financially unmanageable?

It’s perfectly fine to ask, although i think you may be overlooking other titles that you might like that we’re doing right now, such as DAREDEVIL or ANT-MAN or even S.H.I.E.L.D.
