What do you think was more controversial at the time, replacing the original xmen with the deadly genesis team, or making magneto join the team?

To the X-Men fans of that era? Replacing the original team, by far. Most people didn’t really blink when Magneto was brought into the team (apart from at his ugly “Big M” costume with the evening gloves.) But fans of the original X-Men team complained for months and months.
