  • Speaking of CONVERGENCE, I saw comments for a press release on another non-comics site accusing Marvel of copying DC with SECRET WARS. If the latter has been in the planning stages for years, is it safe to assume that it's really the other way around? These things aren't done in a vacuum, & as much as people like to talk about how similar ideas are often just pulled out of the air and it's all serendipity & coincidence, there is also a lot of talent crossover to let editorial know what's up.

Given that everybody involved is making super hero stories in inter-connected sprawling universes, it isn’t at all surprising that there will occasionally be surface similarities between what we do and what DC does. That doesn’t mean that there’s any copying going on. Heck, it doesn’t even mean that the stories are really all that similar apart from on a very surface level–nothing I’ve seen on CONVERGENCE makes me think that it’s truly anything like SECRET WARS.

Sometimes, there are just ideas that are in the cultural zeitgeist, which is why you end up with two “asteroid-is-going-to-destroy-the-Earth” films coming out at the same time.
