At the end of the day what is important when launching a new book: simply telling a good story, or telling a story story that is true to the character? I found myself asking this reading Ant-Man #1. I loved the story and plan to continue with the series, but portraying Scott Lang as a screw-up that can't be counted on seemed inconsistent with past stories. Heck, Reed Richards (the smartest man on the planet) recently chose him as his potential replacement. He wouldn't do that with a screw-up.
Why wouldn’t he? In that very ANT-MAN #1, Tony Stark chooses Scott as his new Head of Security. Same sort of thing.
