We look for people whose work evidences the skill they’ll need to succeed on a professional level. That means being at a good enough level to work for Marvel, and with some degree of a track record in terms of whatever discipline they work in, to show that they can do the work successfully.
But it’s all ultimately about the quality of the work itself.
And we find new talent everywhere. Some of it comes to us, as there are scores of people who’d like to work for Marvel. Some of it comes from keeping an eye on the field, to see what people are doing on projects of their own, and how that might apply to a Marvel assignment. Some of it comes from people like C.B. Cebulski traveling the globe and attending conventions and trade shows and artist showcases worldwide to seek out people who may have the talent that we need. And everything else in-between.
There’s no one magic way to break into Marvel, apart from: make comics well, and get them seen by people.
