Hey Tom, just wanted to say that you and the guys at Marvel are doing a great job and that people should lay off… or take life less seriously.
While I do find the $4.99 price distressing, I don’t people understand how business works. You are not getting the paper and other supplies for these books out of thin air, and you are not paying your creators with hopes and good vibes. And then there’s distribution, and retailers, online or retail, aren’t going to give people those books in exchange for an amusing interpretive dance.
As unfortunate as it is that you had to raise the prices, it is what it is. Personally, I’m only buying certain titles to keep caught up (limited budget, unemployed), most of everything else is being bought in collections later to be cost efficient. Most times with new titles, I’ll give that first $4.99 issue a try, and if I like the book, I keep paying my money for it. Otherwise I stop reading it, and then… nothing, I move on to something else. I don’t go on here and bitch at Tom and others at Marvel and DC and everyone else about how they are ruining my life. My life is bigger than the comic books I read, and I wish more people would think like.
I don’t always like the $4.99 price on special issues, but I can’t do anything about it sans figure out a way to reform the market or make comics cheaper to publish, and given that I’m a fantasy author, I don’t think that is within my abilities. If people really want the prices to drop, that is probably the only way it’s going to happen if ever. But going after you, or any one from the Big Two isn’t going to do anything but create more negativity. Comics are supposed to be fun, and I wish people who are going to be negative would be quiet and let the rest of us read on in piece.
Keep up the good work Tom! Getting caught up on Spider-Verse (That is a metric fuck-ton of Spider-People), then I have to get throw the Last Will of Xavier before I attempt to get caught up on Time Runs Out… I have to get published so I can afford this shit!
