>“Awards are a lovely ego-stroke for the people who receive them in the comic book business. But beyond that, they’re completely meaningless. Winning awards won’t make your book sell better, or make other people more willing to hire you, not to any degree where it makes a tangible difference.”

I’m not going to argue with your experience in the publishing side (no doubt you’ve forgotten more about the field than I’ll ever know), but that’s not always true in other areas. Winning the Spirit of Comics Retailer Award at last year’s Eisner Awards got Melbourne’s All Star Comics a lot of mainstream media attention, resulting in an increase of business that has forced them to move into larger premises (I know, all businesses should have such problems).

So sometimes, it can make a tangible difference.>

That’s certainly good news to hear about that shop, but it doesn’t really change my point any.
