  • It seems to me like most creator-owned comics are very dark and head-explode-y. Do you have any thoughts on why the Image boom hasn't produced many lighthearted or humorous comics (with some exceptions like Sex Criminals)?

    I think it has, those are just not the independent comics that you happen to be looking at.

    There’s as great a range in terms of tone, subject matter and approach in creator-owned comics as anything else, material that spans the entire gamut of what is possible. You just need to seek out the stuff that appeals to you.
